Pa Amb Oli

What a great book!  It’s hard to imagine a captivating book written just about bread and olive oil – and only  1 type for the Mallorquin national ‘sandwich’ – called the Pa Amb Oli (literally translated from Catalan as bread and oil). Once started, I couldn’t put it down.

Made from pa moreno a local bread with no added salt or yeast, the original pa amb oli is sliced bread rubbed with garlic, oil of course, sea salt and the occasional tomato. The humble yet sophisticated pa amb oli is interweaved across generations in the island’s psyche. Written by Tomás Graves and translated from the original Catalan in 2006. You can find it from London publisher Grub Street or on Amazon.
