Renting a car in Mallorca. The Spanish island of Mallorca is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. With its easy accessibility, beautiful weather, clear sea, and fantastic cuisine, the island attracts visitors of all ages. There’s truly a lot to see—from stunning beaches and historical landmarks to natural wonders. The best way to get around Mallorca is by rental car. In this article, you’ll find practical information and helpful tips to make renting a car in Mallorca a breeze!
Why rent a car in Mallorca?
With a total area of 3,648 km², Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic archipelago. And it definitely has a lot to offer—historic towns, charming fishing villages, caves, scenic viewpoints, and more. Along its 555 km of coastline, you’ll find over 200 beautiful beaches and romantic coves. If you want to see as much of the island as possible, renting a car is the smartest choice. You can drive from one end of the island to the other in under an hour. Public transport (usually buses) isn’t always reliable, and it won’t take you to many of the island’s hidden gems. A rental car is also perfect for beach lovers—some of the most stunning beaches are only accessible by car.
Where to rent a car in Mallorca?
Just like in other popular tourist destinations, Mallorca is full of car rental options—from large international chains to small local businesses. If you decide to rent a car, it’s important to choose carefully where to book it from. Luckily, you don’t have to spend hours researching—I’ve got 2 personally tested and trusted car rental companies for you. Both allow renting a car in Mallorca in Mallorca with no deposit required. Car rental Mallorca airport– What to Avoid
We recommend avoiding companies that require a credit card and an extra deposit for insurance. It’s also not ideal to book through intermediaries like Booking.com, as these often add extra insurance or hidden fees. And definitely don’t rent a car from individuals advertising in Facebook groups or online forums—they usually lack the proper licenses. If something happens, you could be held fully responsible.
My experience renting a car in Mallorca
I’ve personally tested both recommended rental companies and want to share a few helpful insights.
With Offugo, I loved the airport pickup without any waiting. It was great to land, walk to the parking lot, and unlock the car with a phone. Their cars are brand new and in excellent condition. If anything goes wrong, you just call and they sort it out immediately. It gave us great peace of mind.
With Wiber, I appreciated the shuttle pickup at the airport, which takes you to their office. They offer three pricing plans, and I highly recommend choosing one with all-inclusive insurance, like SMART CAR or ALL INCLUSIVE, for total peace of mind.
Both companies offer 24/7 assistance and very competitive prices—just choose the one that suits you better. If I had to pick a favorite, I’d go with Offugo. The service and vehicles felt modern and comfortable, and I liked supporting a local Mallorcan business rather than a big corporate chain.
🎁 Don’t forget: Use my discount code “Likexpats10” at either rental company to get 10% off. The code also works in other destinations!

Driving in Mallorca
Whenever you drive abroad, it’s good to learn the local rules and customs. Here are the most important things to know:
🟢 Roads in Mallorca are free to use, including the only highway connecting Palma de Mallorca and Alcudia.
🟢 Roads are generally in good condition with clear signage.
🟢 Some town streets and mountain roads can be very narrow.
🟢 Speed limits are strictly enforced with cameras.
🟢 Speed limit on highways is 120 km/h, most roads are 90 km/h, and in some areas it drops to 70 km/h (clearly marked). In residential zones, the limit is 50 km/h.
🟢 Roundabouts are everywhere. Some have multiple lanes, and navigating them can be tricky. Always exit from the outer lane only.
Parking in Mallorca
Before your trip, it’s smart to learn the island’s parking rules. Many signs are only in Catalan, and some towns have their own rules locals know best. But if you remember the following, you’ll be fine:
⚪ White lines – Public, free parking (solid or dashed white lines).
🔵 Blue lines – Paid parking, mostly in town centers. You’ll need a ticket from a nearby meter.
🟡 Yellow lines – No parking zones.
🟠 Orange lines – Reserved for residents with a special permit.
